History

Range View Productions was formed in 2004 by UC Irvine graduates Scott Werve, Marie Wong, and Grant Van Zevern as an antidote to what they believed was a dearth of production-based theatre in Los Angeles.  Key in the organization's mission statement is also the commitment to providing a venue for bright, young and mid-career professionals, whose talents and vision have little or no commercial outlet in regional theatre.  Simply stated, Range View Productions seeks to become an off-Broadway styled company, whose overriding focus is to popularize progressive storytelling, by intersecting the sturdy aesthetics of the mainstream with the atypical creativity of the underground.

Since 2006, Range View Productions has been fortunate to be able to call the Hayworth Theatre its home, where we have produced fresh adaptations of the classics (Stories of the Night Told Over, a New Shakespeare Play), west coast premieres of contemporary works ('Nami, by Chad Beckim and Office Sonata, by Andy Chmelko), and lesser-known stage gems (Suicide in B Flat by Sam Shepard).  Also, keeping true to our mission of providing opportunities for talented, but unproduced playwrights and directors, Range View will continue its second annual playwriting competition and staged reading series in the summer of 2008.

Mission Statement

Range View Productions is committed to presenting competent and entertaining theatre events with contemporary verve and cleverly integrated production value. The working members of the group are especially dedicated to the work of mid-career theatre professionals, seeking inventive projects that will challenge their talent and training for the production of dramatic storytelling.

Backstage West Review
"The play, which was first produced Off-Broadway last year, builds with genuine tension and reaches a gory climax, setting off a catastrophic chain of events.  This production serves the material with admirable commitment. Danny Cistone's detailed set, which is cleverly designed to represent both flats, creates an atmosphere of seediness and hopelessness.  Director Scott Werve maneuvers his actors skillfully through the overlapping living room and makes effective use of the claustrophobic space."

LA Weekly's Review
"Production designer Danny Cistone has created an exquisitely squalid apartment... In additon to Diallo's powerhouse performance as Keesha, Eshenbaugh, as the gangster landlord, gives a vivid portrayal that is particularly menacing as his calm veneer barely masks a murderous rage, while Hank is very much in the moment as his childish, inept errand boy.   Playwright Chad Beckim seems to share the same bleak urban view of humanity as Stephen Adly Guirgis..."
